The Lifestyle in Almeria
Weather
One thing is for sure. The sun will continue to shine! The dismal Northern European climate is forcing many to rethink their lifestyle balance. With over 320 days of sunshine per year, Southern Spain enjoys Europe´s finest climate.
Accessibility
Almeria and the western and eastern fringes of the province are served from most provincial airports in the UK, with an average flying time of 2 hrs 30 mins, and an average cost of £59 each way. This has opened up the very real potential for clients to visit on an ad hoc basis. We have helped many stressed out executives in securing the perfect weekend retreat in the sun. Many people are finding that a few days recharging their batteries in a warmer climate is the perfect antidote to many of the UK´s current woes. The city of Almeria is currently home to the closest airport to the popular resorts, with the western resorts of Almerimar and Roquetas de Mar accessible within 25 minutes, and the quieter areas of Mojacar and Vera in the east easily reached in 45 minutes. In addition, the new airport to be built in the area of Corvera in the province of Murcia will allow access to these resorts in less than half an hour. The airport at Granada also offers easy acess to the coast of Almeria.
Lifestyle
Almeria is home to a wide variety of attractions, not only for the occasional or frequent visitor, but also for the many northern Europeans who decide to make their home in Almeria. There is fabulous scenery, blending rugged mountains and breathtaking natural beaches, a superb variety of leisure and commercial opportunities and amenities, plenty of sports availble, and the everyday essentials such as English speaking schools, doctors and hospìtals.
Diversity
Due to the influx of foreign tourists and residents, Almeria is becoming more diverse, with an expanding population base, fuelled by overseas buyers of property in Almeria. This means that not only is there a burgeoning international social scene, but also the traditional charm of Andalucia, with centuries-old fishing villages, fiestas, customs and rituals.
Safety
Many Northern Europeans are amazed at the safe and secure environment in Almeria. There is very little crime against the person. The family values reflective of most Spaniards mean that when your children wander off along the promenade at midnight while you enjoy a walk, they are usually scooped up and delivered back to you by a smiling local family.
Sports
Golf is the number one sport of the region of Almeria, but you can also enjoy superb watersports including scuba diving, thanks to the crystal clear Mediterranean waters. In addition, you can also enjoy tennis, horse-riding and mountain climbing. Of course, the Sierra Nevada mountain range near Granada is also close to the beaches and resorts of Almeria, allowing an easy return trip to the slopes from your property in Almeria within the same day.
Migration
We are seeing more and more people from Northern Europe taking the decision to relocate permanently to the Costa Almeria. What used to be the bastion for people approaching retirement is now seeing a reduction in the population age with an influx of professional migrants seeking genuine career opportunities combined with a more rewarding lifestyle. There is very real potential for the area to become the ´California of Europe´. Even our American clients comment on the area´s similarities to Southern California.
Freedom of Movement
Europeans are now free to come and go as they please. Gone are the restrictions when it comes to work, visas etc.
